Marion chats to Zona Visser

“I hope I’m not late, but I’ve already been into town to do some shopping,” said vocalist Zona Visser in an attractive husky voice, peering at me through a large pair of dark glasses. I had to laugh at that . . . I knew very well that for most artists lunch time was early in the day, after all they sleep by day and live by night. So this was quite a feat.
Zona Visser is a young South African singer who has made a name for herself in Britain and the Continent where she has appeared in shows and cabaret and on television, and in Australia, New Zealand and the Far East. She is at present doing a cabaret turn in Bloemfontein restaurant.
Among her most vivid memories is the nine months she spent in Vietnam entertaining the troops. Here she chalked up what was to be the most terrifying experiences of her life.
“One trip I’ll never forget was from Saigon to Danang in an American Hercules. Lockheed when the undercarriage wouldn’t come down. It was four hours of tension – three of which were spent traveling over hostile territory, and the last wondering whether we would land safely,” she said…
